Abandoned Item Policy

Edited

While very rare, sometimes Travelers leave bags behind and never come back. When that happens, Luggage Drop has a clear protocol to protect Hosts and ensure unclaimed items are handled securely and responsibly.

When Is a Bag Considered Abandoned?

A bag is considered abandoned if:

  • The Traveler does not return by the scheduled check-out time

  • No communication is received from the Traveler

  • 30 full days pass from the end of the reservation without retrieval, or contact from the traveler.

Once that 30-day window closes, the item is officially classified as abandoned property.

What Hosts Should Do

If a bag has not been picked up:

  1. Keep the item stored securely and separate from active bookings

  2. Try to contact the Traveler if possible (through contact info provided in the Dashboard)

  3. If 24 hours have passed, report the late pickup via your Host Dashboard

  4. If 30 days pass with no resolution, contact Luggage Drop Partner Success Manager to trigger abandonment procedures

What Happens to Abandoned Bags

Once confirmed as abandoned:

  • Luggage Drop will first attempt one final contact with the Traveler

  • If no response is received, Luggage Drop will arrange for pickup or shipping of the item from your Drop Spot

  • Bags are then sent to our official Unclaimed Baggage Partner, where items are recycled, donated, or repurposed responsibly

This process ensures that:

  • You are no longer responsible for the item

  • Travelers forfeit any claim to the belongings

  • The bag is disposed of ethically with no waste left behind

⚠️ Important Notes

  • Hosts may not discard or donate bags on their own

  • Do not open or inspect the contents unless directed by HQ

  • Keep photos and notes of the item in case of dispute

  • Never store bags beyond 30 days without notifying Luggage Drop

✅ Pro Tip

Keeping detailed records of unclaimed bags (date stored, photos, condition) helps speed up the abandonment process and protects you from liability.
