What to Do in Case of Suspicious or Prohibited Items

Edited

While rare, there may be times when a bag raises concern—due to its contents, odor, weight, or the Traveler’s behavior. As a Host, your safety and the safety of your space always come first.

Here’s how to handle those moments with confidence and care.

🔍 What Counts as Suspicious?

A bag may be considered suspicious if it:

  • Is leaking, unusually heavy, or has a strong odor

  • Contains fragile, flammable, or dangerous items

  • Makes noise, emits heat, or looks tampered with

  • Is dropped off by someone without a valid reservation

  • Belongs to a Traveler acting aggressively or evasively

❌ Prohibited Items (Never Accept or Store)

Luggage Drop prohibits the storage of:

  • Weapons, firearms, or explosives

  • Drugs or illegal substances (even if legal locally)

  • Live animals or perishables

  • Cash, high-value jewelry, or electronics exceeding insured limits

  • Any item that violates local law or building policy

If you suspect a Traveler is attempting to store these items, you may refuse the drop-off and contact support to assist the traveler.

🧠 What to Do if You’re Unsure

  1. Pause the check-in. Politely inform the Traveler you need to verify something.

  2. Do not open the bag under any circumstance.

  3. Use your Host Dashboard to click “Report a Problem” or contact Luggage Drop HQ immediately.

  4. If you feel unsafe, call local authorities and step away from the item.

HQ may instruct you to decline the reservation or initiate next steps. We’ve got your back.

👮 What If It’s an Emergency?

If you believe a bag poses a serious threat:

  • Evacuate the area if necessary

  • Contact local law enforcement

  • Then notify Luggage Drop support with a description of the situation and an incident report will be taken.

✅ After the Incident

Luggage Drop HQ will:

  • Open an internal investigation

  • Work with the Traveler (if valid) or flag / remove the account.

  • Advise you on how to proceed—whether the item needs to be picked up, disposed of, or handed off

You will never be penalized for putting safety first or refusing an unsafe bag.
